What is the duration of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in India?

The aviation industry is made up of several different subsectors. Aircraft Flying Operation, Aviation Maintenance Engineers, In Flight Attendants, Ramp & Cargo, Safety, and many other divisions are major streams connected to this business that collectively support its basic existence. The flying division or operation may sound the most amazing of all of them, but the division that deals with aircraft maintenance engineering is the key and has a crucial role to play in keeping the aircraft airborne and gaining financial advantages for its operator. People who have successfully finished an engineering course and been awarded a license by the NAA are among the highest paid people in the world.

What is the role of these engineers?

An aeroplane has to have its structure, systems, and components repaired, replaced, troubleshooted, and overhauled. Licensed AME mechanics, ame hydraulicians, and ame avionicians handle these tasks for the electrical system, instruments, and radio navigation systems, respectively.

All of the national aviation authorities throughout the world have set the prerequisites for entry into the aircraft maintenance engineering programme. The basic knowledge criteria for the ame course have slightly changed, but for the most part, the experience requirements for the award of an aircraft maintenance engineering license have not.

Along with defining the specifics of the aviation maintenance engineering course, the competent authority also specifies that certain standards must be met as a mandatory prerequisite in order to qualify. The following criteria have been established by the DGCA for ame course intake:

·       At the time of entrance, 16 years old is the minimum age.

·       The applicant must have earned a 10+2 diploma with PCM as their major.

·     Holders of a diploma in mechanical, electrical, production, or electronics after completing 10+2.

·       Provided by a licensed medical professional, the medical fitness certificate

·       They must not have colour blindness in their eyes.

·       Verification of outcomes by a reputable state or national exam board

·       Governed PIC (Aadhaar or Passport Copy)

How much time does it take to become an AME?

The AME course lasts for three years and is organised into six semesters of six months each. These semesters cover all of the modules for the various categories. Basic knowledge instruction, a basic knowledge test, practical instruction, and practical evaluation make up the complete course. Each semester includes both theoretical and practical instruction, and as a result, theory and practical semester exams are held. Additionally, during this three-year training programme, all students will receive hands-on instruction in airport maintenance at maintenance firms, where they will work in real-world settings.

Conclusion: Work of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer looks attractive but can be tiresome if the field is not ones passion. This field requires utmost dedication and love for aviation. Candidates are offered good work opportunities, along with holidays. The scope of growth in this field is immense and requires one to work on not only their technical skills but also their interpersonal skills which can be immensely helpful in daily life.
